A keylogger is a program that captures every keystroke on the computer. It saves the recorded information in form of encrypted logs that can also be sent to a predefined e-mail address or FTP account at regular time intervals. A keylogger also records emails sent, chat sessions, instant messages and keeps a track of every website visited. This program has the capability to run in stealth mode and can be set to start on system boot-up. It can also be used to monitor the various activities on a computer and to collect important information such as usernames, passwords, all applications used etc. It may also hijack search results and hence should be removed from the system if installed without user’s knowledge. |
